The LakeExpo team was awarded by its peers in journalism earlier this month, for coverage related to Lake of the Ozarks' stunning real estate growth, and the 2021 Lake Ozark mayoral election.
The awards were given by the Missouri Press Association, and announced at the MPA's annual convention, held this year at the Lodge of Four Seasons, Sept. 15-17.
Real Estate Coverage
One of the biggest stories of 2020 at Lake of the Ozarks was the boom in real estate sales. As the Lake remained (in)famously "open" when much of the country was still closed for Covid, tourism skyrocketed and home sales accelerated. Real estate was surging in many places across the country, but the pace at Lake of the Ozarks was shocking... and profitable. By the end of the year, total sales volume had topped $1 billion, for the first time ever. (Incredibly, the trend continued, and by the end of the third quarter of 2021, the Lake's real estate market had already surpassed that $1 billion mark.)
LakeExpo's coverage of the 2020 real estate boom was awarded Second Place in the Best Business Story category among mid-sized news organizations across the state.

Mayor & Election Coverage
In March of 2021, LakeExpo published a lengthy exposé on an investigation into then-mayor Gerry Murawski, who had been investigated for — according to investigators — soliciting an underaged prostitute while he was an elected official, as well as conducting questionable relationships with female inmates at a local jail.
After the story published, local businessman Dennis Newberry entered the mayoral race as a write-in candidate (it was too late for candidates to get on the ballot), and won the three-candidate race by a landslide.
• LakeExpo earned First Place in Best Editorial among mid-sized news organizations across the state for our editorial "Time For A New Mayor."
• For coverage of that mayoral election and the surprising results, LakeExpo won First Place for Best Election Coverage among small- to mid-sized news organizations across Missouri.
• For the original article (Lake Ozark Mayor Exposed), LakeExpo earned Honorable Mention among all daily news organizations statewide.
