The two people who were tragically killed in a plane crash at Lake of the Ozarks on Tuesday have been identified.
The Miller County Coroner's Office identified them as 51-year-old Michelle Peterson and 52-year-old John Peterson both of Simpsonville, Kentucky. They were found deceased inside the aircraft.
There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the deaths, according to the coroner's office. The NTSB and FAA are investigating the crash, which occurred after the plane took off from Lee C. Fine Airport.
Kentucky State Sen. Aaron Reed, who represents Shelbyville, released a statement remembering the Petersons as longtime members of the community. Reed said John was a UPS pilot based out of Louisville, while Michelle had been active in local civic life and had just won a school board race.
“Both were leaders in their own right, devoted parents and valued members of our community,” Reed said.
According to Reed, the couple leaves behind two children, Kylie and Tanner.
“My heart goes out to Kylie and Tanner and their entire extended family as they navigate this unimaginable loss,” Reed said. "I hope they find comfort in knowing that they are surrounded by a community that cares deeply for them and stands ready to support them in the days and weeks ahead."
