School Bus Slides Into Ditch As Flooding Damages Lake Area Roads

KAISER, Mo. — A Lake area school bus slid off a rural gravel road on Tuesday, leaving the bus damaged but all occupants unharmed.

Dr. Jason Price, School of the Osage Superintendant, confirmed that around 4 p.m. the district was contacted about one of its buses that had slid off the gravel roadway on Oak Bend Rd. in Kaiser.

Price said the extremely rainy conditions this week had apparently made the roadway so soft that the bus sank into the edge of the road and was “pulled” into the ditch.

There were two children aboard; Dr. Price said the two children and driver were all checked out by emergency personnel and found to be unharmed.

The bus had significant body damage and was towed from the scene by Hi-Tech Autobody and Towing.

“It could have been a lot worse,” the parent of one of the kids on the bus told LakeExpo, noting the bus narrowly missed crashing down a nearby steep ravine.

“We’re fortunate the kids were safe!” Dr. Price said, adding, “The driver did a great job.”

A landslide has severely damaged a section of road at Lake of the Ozarks following storms that moved through the Lake area on Monday and Tuesday.

The incident was reported by the Camden County Road and Bridge Department around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 19.

The landslide happened on Ozark Isle Drive in Roach, Missouri. Officials have designated a one-lane section of Summit Ridge Drive as the detour around the incident.

All footage was captured by the LakeExpo team.

Monday brought several inches of rain to the Lake area, and video from local residents shows the effects: roaring creeks and flooded roadways across the region.

The National Weather Service says it was only the beginning of a wet week, with more rain forecasted every day through Friday.
