OSAGE BEACH, Mo. — It's truly the end of an era.
The former Happy Fisherman restaurant, an icon at Lake of the Ozarks for decades, is being demolished today to make way for a new planned shopping center in Osage Beach.
The restaurant had been closed for years, but then spent a brief stint (about a year) as Jake's Steak & Fish before the building closed for good. It was purchased along with the Golden Door Motel—which recently closed as a result of the purchase. In total, developers have big plans for 14 acres of land—next to the Osage Beach Outlet Marketplace and across from Dierbergs.
The project has been dubbed "Osage Beach Commons" and developers say they intend to spend about $30.5 million on a retail center with a mix of stores and restaurants. Project completion is slated for the spring of 2019, and though rumors abound, developers are mum about exactly which stores will ultimately be landing at Osage Beach Commons.
