LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. — Authorities arrested an Eldon, Mo., man on Monday in connection with a fatal crash that occurred during BikeFest at Lake of the Ozarks.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol took 23-year-old Anthony T. Floyd II into custody for a felony: leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash resulting in the death of another person.
The arrest stemmed from an incident on Highway 242, where a motorcycle crash early Sunday morning claimed the life of 35-year-old Larose Spencer of Phoenix, Ariz.
Spencer was a passenger on a Harley Davidson that struck a median and overturned around 12:20 a.m., Sept. 15. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, Khalil Manygoats, also of Phoenix, was also arrested and charged with DWI (death of another) and possession of a controlled substance. A witness said that Spencer had been thrown from the Harley after it was allegedly operated in a careless manner, according to the probable cause statement.
Investigators were allegedly told by the witness that another vehicle hit Spencer after she was ejected.
"[A trooper] continued through a gathered crowd where he observed a female with an obvious fatal head injury lying in the roadway," said Trooper M. Lawson in the probable cause statement. A "witness stated the deceased female was thrown from the motorcycle during the crash and was 'run over' by a passing vehicle."
Investigators allegedly found vehicle parts at the scene later, identified as belonging to a 2008-2012 Ford Escape.
"It was believed the part became dislodged during the collision with the deceased female and was inadvertently left at the scene of the crash," Lawson wrote in the statement.
On Sept. 16, an anonymous tip led police to suspect Anthony Floyd II as the driver of the car involved in the hit-and-run. The tipster reported overhearing a conversation identifying Floyd II as the driver and mentioned that the vehicle had been towed to his residence.
MSHP contacted Hi-Tech Auto Body and Towing, who reportedly confirmed that a Ford Escape had been towed from a location approximately two miles east of the crash site on the night of the accident. The vehicle, later found at Floyd's residence, allegedly had front-end and undercarriage damage consistent with the crash.
When officers arrived at the residence, Floyd’s mother used her phone to track his location to his workplace in Osage Beach, where he was arrested. Both Floyd II and his father invoked their Fifth Amendment rights during questioning.
Captain Jason Crites of MSHP Troop F thanked the public for providing information that led to the vehicle and Floyd’s arrest. Floyd II is being held at the Miller County Jail on a 24-hour hold, pending further investigation.
