When Temperatures Drop, Veteran-Owned Air-Exx HVAC Has Lake Homeowners' Backs

  • 2 min to read

When one Lake of the Ozarks homeowner’s air conditioner broke in the middle of summer, dealing with the heat just wasn’t an option. While waiting for a replacement part to arrive, Air-Exx HVAC owner Jay Napolitano went above and beyond to keep his client comfortable.

He brought them a portable air conditioner.

“It’s something a lot of companies don't offer,” Napolitano said. “We care about our clients. It's more than just a job to us.”

That philosophy is at the heart of this veteran-owned HVAC company.

For Napolitano, who served in the U.S. Army, that mindset of service didn't end when his military career did. “We were protecting our country,” Napolitano said. “Now I look at it like we're protecting your home.”

That commitment was also evident when another client experienced a shattered blower wheel on an old system. The part was obsolete, and replacing it wasn't going to be the easiest route. But the only alternative was a complete system replacement that could easily run into thousands of dollars.

Rather than immediately recommending an entirely new HVAC system, the company searched for — and found — a replacement part so the client could make the decision.

“It was way less than a new system. We like to give clients the option if we can,” Napolitano explained. “We don't want to tell somebody they have to replace everything if there's another solution.”

The company's approach is simple: diagnose the problem, explain the options and let the client make an informed decision. “We give options and solutions,” Napolitano said.

That means explaining what is happening with the system rather than simply presenting a bill. Technicians are trained not only to diagnose HVAC problems but also to communicate their findings clearly to homeowners.

According to Napolitano, proper installation is one of the biggest factors affecting a system’s longevity. “It's not just about equipment,” Napolitano said. “It needs to be installed correctly.”

A properly installed and maintained older system can continue operating reliably for decades, while a new system can experience problems prematurely if critical installation procedures aren't followed, he said.

One example involves the copper refrigerant lines. Napolitano explained that when those lines are brazed together, technicians should use nitrogen during the process to help prevent oxidation and contamination inside the tubing. If proper procedures aren't followed, residue can form inside the lines and eventually circulate through the system, causing a cascade of problems.

One of the easiest ways to keep your HVAC system running well? Change the air filters regularly. “It allows the machine to run as it should,” Napolitano emphasized.

For homeowners who want an additional level of service, Air-Exx offers membership options that provide benefits including 24/7 service.

“Customers come and go. Clients stay forever,” Napolitano said.
