LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. — A quick-thinking driver managed to bail out of his truck as it slid toward the Lake on black ice Sunday.

Philip Randazzo was driving down the hill toward Backwater Jack's restaurant in Osage Beach on Sunday, as freezing rain fell around the Lake of the Ozarks. Suddenly, he says, he hit a patch of black ice, and gravity took over. Randazzo commented about the experience in a boaters Facebook group.

The truck slid hopelessly toward the parking lot... and the dropoff that leads to the restaurant's pool area. "I was in the Truck on black ice had no other choice!!," Randazzo said online. He managed to bail out—a good thing, because the truck launched off the edge of the parking area, crashed into the ground next to the pool and flipped, skidding to a stop at the pool area's fence. That fence prevented it from continuing off the next dropoff into the Lake.

The truck was badly damaged, but Randazzo was not much worse for the wear, as security camera video shows him carefully trotting down the hill a minute later. According to local photographer Jim Davis, who was at the scene shortly after the crash, it appeared the restaurant had minor roof and some other cosmetic damage, but the truck just barely avoided the pool.
