LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. — The Lake area was battered by powerful winds on Thursday, as a massive weather system often called a "bomb cyclone" brought blizzards, rain, and wind across the central U.S.
According to readings taken at the Camdenton Memorial - Lake Regional Airport reported by WindFinder.com, the winds blew in hard from the southwest during the 7 a.m. hour, with average winds of 26 mph and gusts up to 36 mph measured at 7:45 p.m. By 12:35 p.m., airport was measuring average winds of 36 mph and gusts of 48 mph.
Though homeowners everywhere are accustomed to securing loose outdoor items before a wind storm and checking the yard for shingles afterward, Lake of the Ozarks homeowners have another, huge concern: docks.
Last weekend, winds ripped at least one large condo dock loose from its shoreline anchors, and multiple others were reported damaged. Straight line winds have been known to flip docks upside down.
