Nestled on the bank of a quiet cove at Lake of the Ozarks, visitors can find Niangua Hills Resort, a perfect spot to stay when choosing lodging for a vacation at the Lake.Â
Located on the 5 Mile Marker of the Big Niangua Arm of the Lake, this resort was originally built in the 1940s with the name Singing Hills Resort. Under the new ownership of Robby and Amanda Bax, it has undergone some TLC while paying homage to the history of the Lake.
"My vision for the property was to give people a feel like they're going to camp at the Lake as a kid," Amanda said. "There's so much history there. The resort had been outdated for quite some time, but we really saw the potential."

Bought in March 2022, the remodel began immediately, with fresh paint, new appliances, flooring, furniture and more. The 12 cabins and three homes on property all have vintage touches to mix the old with the new.
One way the new owners have kept the history of the area is through the rental names. Many of the cabins are titled after sunken townsites - like Old Crittendon, Purvis, or Proctor - which were flooded in 1931 to make the Lake.
"The resort had been on the market for awhile, and I think we were kind of the only ones who could see the diamond in the rough," Amanda said. "We've done renovation projects before, but as far as a full-fledged resort, it was quite a big stretch."
Amanda and Robby run Niangua Hills every day. She manages the operations while he handles the maintenance upkeep. This year, Robby built the pool. As the business grows, they expect to add more staff to be onsite for guest needs. They also plan to continue updating the property by adding a general store, Wi-Fi, and golf carts for renting.Â
"Every year we tend to learn more about the business and readjust what we think we need to do and what our guests say they're looking for," Amanda said. "We want to expand our services and continue to grow."
Just some of the amenities currently offered at the resort include kayak and paddle board rentals, a few pet friendly accommodations, covered boat slips, a laundry room, and a playground. Being located in a no-wake cove also means guests can truly enjoy the quiet side of the Lake.Â
Niangua Hills Resort is great for a romantic getaway or for large groups. The variety of different sized cabins and homes caters well to guests for events like family reunions. A free pavilion is also available for those BBQ get-togethers on a first-come basis.
"The great thing about staying in a resort is you can have tons of amenities while all being close together on the same property but in your own space," Amanda added.Â
After the busy summer season, Amanda and Robby are already ready for the slower pace of fall at the Lake... but by the looks of things, it won't be too slow.
"I have started seeing this huge influx of reservations coming in for the fall," Amanda said. "So I'm not the only one feeling that fall vibe!"
