CAMDENTON, Mo. — The City of Camdenton has long talked about building a Community Center. But for now, the city says, the project is still too expensive to build.

Camdenton City Administrator Jeff Hooker recently updated the City Board of Aldermen on the Camdenton Community Center, proposed to be located next to the city park.

The preliminary price tag for the project was $3.8 million. However, bids received in May 2020 came in at $5.6 and 5.8 million. As a result, the project is on hold.

“It was financially not a good recommendation for the city to borrow that much money during those uncertain times,” Hooker said.

The city has saved $2 million towards the project and is exploring additional grant possibilities with the Federal Emergency Management Agency. According to Hooker, the board still wants a community center, and Hooker is consulting with a local builder on price.
