Carl Wayne Fullerton Obituary

Carl Wayne Fullerton, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at home in Sunrise Beach, Missouri on July 28, 2026, at age 77. He was born March 8, 1949, in Butler, Missouri to Carl Thomas and Neveleen Diehl Fullerton. He was a kind-hearted, patient, and steady man who leaves a cherished legacy.

Before moving to Paola, Kansas, his family relocated from Butler to Louisburg, Kansas, where his parents owned the Gambles Store. He graduated from Paola High School in 1967 and attended Fort Scott Community College. He worked at Williams Pipeline/Magellan Midstream.

Wayne married Connie Joeckel, and they lovingly blended their families on November 7, 1998. They continued to live in Paola for several years before retiring to Sunrise Beach to be "at the Lake" full-time. Together, they enjoyed their family, their home at the lake, several road trips (taking the “scenic route”), winters in Arizona, and making many memories with friends and family.

Wayne was an avid and accomplished trap shooter. As a member of the Missouri Trap Association, his successes allowed him to represent Missouri at the national level multiple times, most recently qualifying in 2020. He also enjoyed fishing and won several tournaments. His fishing legacy lives on in his kids and grandkids. In addition to his love for his family and the lake, he enjoyed watching the Royals and the Chiefs.

Wayne was deeply loved by his family. They would describe him as happy, patient, and gentle. He was always willing to take them tubing or fishing and to take the fish off the hook. His legacy is one of patience and kindness. He leaves behind many cherished memories with those who knew him.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Connie, of the home; his children: Kimberly (Brian) Vansell, Christine Spake, Samantha (Jim) Auer, Patrick (Vanessa) Ellis, and Scott (Kirsten) Robinson, all in the greater Kansas City area. He was a loving grandfather to Stephanie Castillo, Javier Castillo, Peyton Spake, Chase Wickham, Cael Spake, Cooper Vansell, Jackson Vansell, Riley Robinson, Spencer Wickham, Aubree Ellis, Baylin Ellis, and Jasper Robinson. He also leaves several cousins and nieces. He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Neveleen.

As per Wayne's wishes, there are no formal services; a celebration of life will be planned for a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Kidwell-Garber Laurie/Sunrise Beach Chapel.
