Brushing Scam

Lake area authorities are alerting the public to a rising scam where individuals receive packages they never ordered. The Camden County Sheriff's Office recently posted about the scam on social media.

Scammers use the "brushing" tactic to fake purchases, boosting their product ratings and reviews. Key signs of a brushing scam include:

- Receiving an unsolicited package

- Missing or fake return addresses

- Packages linked to third-party sellers like Amazon or eBay

- Fake QR codes that can potentially steal information when scanned

If you receive such a package, you can "Return to Sender" if unopened (USPS returns at no cost), discard it, or keep it—but be cautious of sharing personal information.
