Meth & Homemade Bombs Found In Man's Car Over July 4th Weekend At The Lake, Cops Say

  • 1 min to read

A dangerous high-speed pursuit over Fourth of July weekend ended with deputies discovering methamphetamine and two improvised explosive devices, according to the Camden County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say the suspect fled from a traffic stop on Horseshoe Bend Parkway during a busy time of day, leading law enforcement onto Highway 54. At one point, the driver reportedly turned into oncoming traffic, putting other motorists at serious risk. He was eventually stopped and taken into custody without further incident.

A search revealed meth, drug paraphernalia, and two IEDs, authorities said.

The arrest was one of several made during a busy holiday weekend that saw more than 300 calls for service by the Camden County Sheriff's Office. Among the many calls, deputies made nine DWI arrests, responded to 26 domestic violence calls, and investigated 29 property crimes.

Other incidents included a drug-related arrest at Shady Gators, where someone allegedly attempted to bring narcotics into the venue, and a vehicle stop that led to the arrest of two people for controlled substance possession after a K9 alert.

In another case, deputies say a driver made “sovereign citizen” statements during a stop and was arrested for resisting arrest and unlawful possession of a weapon. A firearm was reportedly seen in the passenger seat.

In total for the weekend, deputies made 19 arrests and put them on 24-hour holds.
