CAMDEN COUNTY, Mo. — A slow chase in the middle of the night landed a woman in jail.

According to Osage Beach Police Department Chief Todd Davis, an OBPD officer clocked a vehicle speeding on westbound Highway 54 around the 123 mile marker (near Passover Road) at about 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 27. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver fled, Davis reported.

As the vehicle continued west on Highway 54, tire spikes were deployed by Osage Beach Police around the Key Largo Road intersection; a Camden County Sheriff’s Deputy deployed additional spikes around A Road. The vehicle hit both but continued on, albeit more slowly. Residents in Camdenton reported hearing the sound of metal grinding on pavement as the car slowly rolled through the city with at least one wheel ruined. The chase continued out of Camdenton, through Roach, and into Macks Creek.

More spike strips were deployed there.

Between Macks Creek and the junction of Highway 73 and Highway 54, Osage Beach ended their pursuit, and the Camden Sheriff’s units continued following the vehicle. The chase came to an end there and the driver, a woman, was taken into custody without incident. Davis said she was arrested after failing a DWI/sobriety test, but formal charges have not yet been filed, so her name has not been released.
