OSAGE BEACH, Mo. — An SUV careened off Osage Beach Parkway into the Hy-Vee Gas Station parking lot, crashing through the convenience store on Saturday afternoon, according to witnesses.
Osage Beach Police say the incident occurred just before 4 p.m., when 35-year-old Roy Pietrzak was driving a 1997 GMC Yukon west on Osage Beach Parkway. Pietrzak reportedly had a medical issue, causing the vehicle to go across all lanes of traffic, careen down the grassy hill above the gas station, travel through the parking lot, and crash into the convenience store.
Incredibly, there were no serious injuries resulting from the incident. Osage Beach Police, Ambulance, and Fire were on the scene. One witness told LakeExpo.com the driver appeared to have had a seizure, and was being checked out by medical personnel on-scene. The Police Department says Pietrzak had minor injuries and was not transported for medical treatment.
The Yukon crashed through the right-hand side entry of the convenience store and veered left, slamming into shelves and colliding with the alcohol display area. A large amount of alcohol bottles were broken. Electricians were called to the scene to temporarily disconnect the store's electricity as a precautionary measure, to prevent the alcohol from igniting.
