The Skinny on Semaglutide

First things first: Semaglutide is not just some run-of-the-mill diet pill; it's an FDA-approved, groundbreaking injectable medication originally approved to treat type 2 diabetes. However, two years ago, the FDA also approved it specifically for weight loss.

Semaglutide works by mimicking the effects of the hormone GLP-1, which is a natural hormone that is already in your body and it helps to regulate appetite and blood sugar levels. It also helps to slow down the emptying of the stomach, which helps to prevent people from overeating.

While managing a healthy diet is critical not only to weight loss but also just for general health, sometimes that’s not enough to help get over the weight-loss hump. Counting calories, sacrificing favorite treats, and saying goodbye to scrumptious snacks… can make life kind of miserable. But Semaglutide helps by actually suppressing your appetite. Midnight cravings? A distant memory. And say farewell to the endless hours of grumbling stomachs!

Really Real Results

In clinical trials, compounded semaglutide has been shown to help people lose an estimated 15-20% of their total weight at the start of treatment.

Obviously every person’s body is different, so the speed of results will vary somewhat. But Vitality reports some patients using Semaglutide have lost between 5 – 10% of their starting weight within the first few weeks of beginning.

Patients using semaglutide can expect to lose approximately 3-5 pounds a week.

The Cost

For your first visit to Vitality, you’ll have a doctor consultation to discuss using Semaglutide for weight loss. The consultation is $99 and you leave with your first injection that day.

Vitality typically orders a patient’s supply during their visit; a monthly supply is $399 (injections are administered weekly).

Currently Vitality is running a promotion: 3 months of injections for $900, so patients would save $300 by purchasing the 3-month program.

Vitality does not take health insurance, as most health insurance companies now view weight loss semaglutide as a cosmetic medication. However, they do take HSA’s, FSA’s, and CareCredit, and cash, check, and card.

A Custom Plan

By using compounded semaglutide the patients receive a customized medication that can be tailored to the individual needs of each patient.

Compounded semaglutide is a safe medication for most people. However, it can cause some side effects, such as nausea, vomiting, constipation, and abdominal cramping. These side effects are usually mild and go away on their own after a few weeks, and the great thing about the compounded medication is that we can tailor the dosage to help you adapt to the side effects that might occur when you first start the therapy.

“Since Semaglutide is a naturally occurring hormone in the body there are not any severe drug interactions,” said Kendra Easley, the Certified Medical Assistant for the clinic. “The main thing we like to make sure of is that the patients do not have a history of thyroid cancer. However, we understand each person's worries, and that is why we have a telehealth doctor on staff for each new patient to discuss these concerns with.”

#cheatdays

Possibly the best perk of Semaglutide: you can have your cake and eat it too—literally! Because it helps curb your appetite and boost metabolism, you can treat yourself to those cheat days guilt-free. So go ahead, enjoy that slice of pizza or indulge in some chocolate-covered strawberries. Semaglutide is still working.
