A piece of equipment critical to cancer care will continue to be available in the Lake of the Ozarks region thanks to a $3 million appropriation.

Lake Regional Hospital’s linear accelerator - used in the treatment of cancer of the chest, neck, face, and head - has come to the end of its useful life. Representative Jeff Vernetti helped secure a one-time $3 million appropriation in the state budget that will help replace this vital tool at one of the state’s most respected cancer centers.

Lake Regional Cancer Center is the only treatment facility providing radiation therapy within a 50 miles radius. If the current accelerator fails without a viable replacement, Vernetti said vulnerable cancer patients would no longer have local access to lifesaving treatments.

“It has been a tight budget year, but this was an appropriate expenditure for the health and well-being of the people of mid-Missouri,” Representative Vernetti said. “It is important that state-of-the-art cancer care be available and supported. This piece of equipment is key to the excellent work of the Lake Regional cancer program.”

In an announcement about the funding Vernetti pointed to his other successful efforts in the 2026 session, including opening the door for Osage Beach to acquire Lee C. Fine Airport, blocking predatory lawsuits targeting lake-area businesses, and securing funding for tourism promotion statewide. He has addressed matters of public safety, property rights and ordered development during the legislative session.

Representative Vernetti will return to the 123 District full-time when the legislative ends later this month. He encourages constituents with issues or concerns to contact him.

Representative Jeff Vernetti, a Republican, represents Camden County (District 123) in the Missouri House of Representatives. He was elected to his first term in November of 2024. For more information, contact Rep. Vernetti at 573-751-1119 or by email at Jeff.Vernetti@house.mo.gov.
