OSAGE BEACH, Mo. — A major hotel brand is looking at the possibility of a 160-room hotel at Lake of the Ozarks, according to Osage Beach Mayor Richard Ross.

The ongoing construction of the Marriott resort at the Oasis entertainment complex will bring a global brand option for lodging to the popular central Missouri vacation destination. But Ross says another major brand is eyeing the Lake area, though he's not yet allowed to reveal which brand it is.

It came up at the City’s Board of Aldermen meeting on Thursday, Sept. 17, as the board was considering Bill 26-98, to approve the City joining the Missouri Clean Energy District.

Ross explained to the board, “We've been approached by a developer who has some interest in doing some things in our city and would like to be part of the Missouri Clean Energy District.” Joining that district would allow the developer access to some financial tools in building the hotel, Ross said. He noted that the city’s legal counsel has confirmed there is “no risk to the city” in joining the district, adding, “It would be an accommodation for a developer that I don't see any particular issue with.”

The board voted to approve joining the district.

In a later interview with LakeExpo, Ross said the developer was from outside the Lake area but that they may be working with a local developer. He also noted the Oasis project had used a similar funding mechanism, through the Show-Me PACE Group.

“We’ve been hearing this for years that there’s a market study that says the Lake needs all these hotel rooms… people have [hotel] points and they want to use them on vacation!” he said, though he was unable to reveal the name of the developer or hotel brand being considered.

Meanwhile, the 401-room Marriott Resort and Conference Center under construction in Osage Beach at The Oasis project is slated to open in 2028.
