Boat Fire - 1 Mile Marker

LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. — A boat was destroyed by fire on Saturday, May 18, around the 1 Mile Marker. Lake Ozark Fire Protection District was on-scene with a fire boat.

The fire happened late Saturday evening.

Video shared by a Facebook user showed the boat engulfed in flames as a fire boat doused the blaze.

Eyewitnesses told LakeExpo the boat's occupants were picked up by a fishing boat. The burning boat reportedly sank.

Boat fires occur nearly every year on Lake of the Ozarks. One of the most common causes of boat fires is overheating, and one of the most common reasons for an overheat is a failed impeller. Marine mechanics recommend preemptively changing a boat's impeller every two years.

XTow, the benefits club exclusively for Lake of the Ozarks boaters, offers a free No-Tow Checklist for boaters to use before they launch for the season. The checklist is based on the most common causes of a breakdown.
