CAMDEN COUNTY, Mo. — Over a dozen fires have been reported across Lake of the Ozarks, keeping firefighter crews busy and causing some residents to evacuate amid the high winds.

Residents along East Branch Rd and Stanton Church Rd in western Camden County are under an evacuation order due to large natural cover fires in the area.

Emergency Management Agency Director John Scheper says the order was issued on the authority of the Southwest Camden County Fire District, which reports that fires are out-of-control with personnel spread thin across the Lake area and state for natural cover fires.

"These fires are starting to encroach on residences, businesses, and structures throughout the area," said Troop F of the Missouri State Highway Patrol on X.

Southwest Camden County Fire Protection District wrote on Facebook around 5 p.m., "If you see fire within 100 yards of your home, you need to evacuate immediately. All resources are currently out working and we still do not have enough people/equipment. If you live in the areas of Stanton Chapel, Gerinomo Springs, East Branch, Camping Paradise, Charger Drive or Ballparks National area you should be evacuating now."

The Osage Beach Fire Protection District reminded people to not burn for the next couple of days.
