CAMDENTON, Mo. — Camdenton Memorial-Lake Regional Airport’s first design for a veterans’ memorial proved more costly than many committee members anticipated.
After Monday’s meeting, City Administrator J. Jeff Hancock reported, “The committee spent considerable time reviewing recent costs for a granite monument and came to the consensus that the estimated cost as originally discussed was too high.”
In addition, the committee reviewed what money the City of Camdenton can provide for this project and discussed raising funds. Committee member and veteran Keith Lucas with MSW Interactive Design LLC will provide a design rendering for the City’s use and for the committee’s next meeting: Sept. 14, 2015, the Monday following the Camdenton Air Show when the Mayor had once hoped to unveil the design for veterans to see.
The new, streamlined design now includes two bronze plaques, one 30 inches by 42 inches and the second 42 inches by 48. These will include the language that the Committee had prepared for use in the original memorial design. Committee members asked the City to secure cost estimates from three companies for these plaques.
Clark’s Concrete Construction will also provide a cost estimate for a concrete structure to display the plaques. Clark’s had previously agreed to consult for the City on questions involving concrete.
