CAMDENTON, Mo. — The City of Camdenton unveiled a drawing last week for its Veterans’ Memorial Monument, the day before Veterans Day.
On Tuesday, Nov. 10, Camdenton Mayor McNabb and several Veterans’ Memorial Monument committee members were on hand to reveal the drawing. The City also hosted a reception following the Mayor’s remarks on the Camdenton Memorial Lake Regional Airport grounds where the monument will be erected.
To date, three citizens and one business have donated $386 toward a cost exceeding $20,000. However, cash donations, while welcome, are not the only way in which businesses and citizens can help, according to Mayor McNabb. The City will also accept in-kind donations for concrete or brick from companies with expertise in those materials.
The official kick-off was timed to coincide with Veterans Day on Nov. 11, but set one day early so as not to conflict with ceremonies planned for that day of honor. Nevertheless, few of those who had voiced their desire to see the word “memorial” returned to its place of honor in the renaming of the Camdenton airport were in attendance.
Representing the planning and design committee were members Gary Cummins, Alderman Sandy Gentry, City Administrator J. Jeff Hancock, Mayor McNabb, Kevin Owen, Mike Parker, and John Wilson. Also present for the kick-off were Building Department Director Dennis Croxton, Public Works Director Bill Jeffries, and City Clerk Renée Kingston.
The City hopes to break ground for the monument in early spring 2016.
To donate funds, citizens and businesses should make checks payable to the City of Camdenton. These may be brought to City Hall or mailed to Camdenton City Hall, 437 W US Highway 54, Camdenton, MO 65020.
If businesses or individuals wish to donate in-kind contributions, the City asks that they contact City Administrator J. Jeff Hancock by phone at 573-346-3600 or by email at jjhancock@camdentoncity.com.
