Cell tower

SUNRISE BEACH, Mo. — Sunrise Beach City Planner Roger Corbin, reported to the village board on Monday, Jan. 12, that a cell tower company has requested locating a cell tower near the south end of town.

A new state cell tower legislation allows cell tower companies to construct cell towers anywhere they want to, without permission from the municipality or county, unless that county or city has an ordinance pertaining to cell tower placement. Corbin requested the village draft an ordinance to that effect. He presented the board with an example of a cell tower ordinance from the city of Lake Ozark. In response, the board requested the Sunrise Beach Planning and Zoning Commission first revise zoning requirements concerning cell tower placement.

Bear Bottom Resort fire

Bear Bottom Resort Owner Matt Sutcliff attended the meeting and requested the village take the lock off a fire hydrant that is located next to his resort. Sutcliff suffered a fire in his resort office on Monday, Jan. 12. He said that he believed that if the fire had not been discovered as quick as it was, it could have spread to other resort buildings and the fire department would have needed the fire hydrant. The village public works put a lock on the hydrant due to complaints someone was stealing water. The complaints were never proven. No one was hurt in the fire and it was contained to one office. Village Attorney Greg Williams commented that tampering with public water supply is a crime. The lock was removed on Tuesday, Jan. 13.

Police

The Sunrise Beach Police Department responded to a total of 146 calls for service in December. They issued 24 warnings, and 59 citations, which included 35 tickets for speeding, seven stop sign violations, one for no proof of insurance, one for not wearing a helmet, six for improper license plates, two for following too close, three for failure to register, two careless and imprudent driving tickets, one failure to obey a electric traffic device, and one driving while suspended.

Budgets

The board approved an ordinance amending an annual budget for the village for the fiscal year beginning Tuesday, April 1, 2014 and ending Tuesday, March 31, 2015. The amendment was needed due to adding a budget for the village water and wastewater works.

Mayor Curt Mooney presented board members with a draft copy of the 2015-2016 general village budget, as well as a draft of the 2015-2016 water and wastewater works budget. Mooney requested board members to look over the budgets, and be ready to vote on them at the 6 p.m., Monday, Feb. 2 board meeting.

The board went into closed session to discuss personnel and legal items. No decision or actions were taken.
