CAMDENTON, Mo. — The city of Camdenton board of aldermen this week took another step to show its opposition to the telecommunications legislation which is currently on Gov. Jay Nixon’s desk.
Senate Bill 650 (SB650), a bill that relates to wireless telecommunications infrastructure was signed by the Missouri House Speaker and delivered to the governor on March 6, 2014. Some municipalities are against the bill, as they claim it could impact their ability to regulate and provide input on the appearance and location of towers within their own communities.
In the March 18, 2014 board of aldermen meeting, the board approved a resolution strongly urging the governor to veto the bill.
The resolution will be recorded in its entirety and submitted to Gov. Nixon.
City Administrator
City Administrator Jeff Hancock told the board the Camdenton Airport’s taxi lane reconstruction project is underway, and it should be under construction the first part of April.
Hancock sought to clear confusion on the extension of the runway. The extension project is on the Missouri projects list, however, funding is still an issue as not all sources have been identified by the state or the city. There are some funds which will allow the city to move forward on land acquisition, but grading is not on the state’s schedule until 2015/16 and completion is not expected until 2016/17. Hancock said there are lots of opportunities and the city will continue to move forward seeking additional funding.
Hancock also told the board sales tax revenue was down last month, but up 4.8 percent this month and up 1.65 percent for the fiscal year.
Departments
The police department will be participating in an upcoming Missouri Department of Transportation grant. For this month it will include seat belt and driving while intoxicated checks.
The public works department was given authorization to hire a seasonal mower for the airport.
The fire department was given permission to go out for bid on replacing the 15-year-old self-contained breathing apparatus and related equipment. The purchase will allow them to utilize updated equipment and will also bring them up to code for the National Fire Protection Association 2013 standards.
The airport code identifier has been delayed. With several variables involved in the selection of the code, more time is needed for finalization.
The next regularly scheduled Camdenton board of aldermen meeting is April 1, 2014 at 7 p.m.
