As word of the VFW's woes spread, one local business made a major contribution to help supply the kitchen for the new facility—which will include a restaurant and bar, as well as an event center. CARE (Commercial And Restaurant Equipment, Inc.) donated approximately $10,000 of commercial kitchen equipment to the post last week. At the block party, businesses and members of the community donated to help keep the post afloat.
VFW leadership is still tallying the funds raised by the weekend's event, but Post Surgeon Keith Lucas was excited to report that the post membership grew over the weekend. At the block party, nine veterans became members of the VFW, and five people joined the VFW Auxiliary.
