CAMDENTON, Mo. — The City of Camdenton needs help funding a veterans' memorial project, and the local VFW has led the charge—and is encouraging others to follow.
On Friday, July 25, 2016, Bill Mullins, Post Commander, VFW Post 5923 and Terry Reaka, Post Quartermaster, VFW Post 5923, presented Mayor John McNabb with a check for $1,000. The donation will go towards the Veteran's Memorial Monument, to be located at the Camdenton Memorial-Lake Regional Airport. The VFW has now challenged other veterans groups and individuals to make contributions.
The city recently reported it had struggled to raise funds for the monument, which is expected to cost over $37,000, with only $10,000 of city funds budgeted toward the project. The local VFW is currently in the midst of its own fundraising campaign, to finish a restaurant and community center that ran into construction issues partway through the project.
The City of Camdenton thanked the VFW for the donation.
