A new DWI Court has opened in Camden County, aimed at helping substance abusers recover and become productive—rather than destructive.

The court's first session was Friday, Dec. 22 at 9 a.m. at the Camden County Courthouse with Judge Aaron Koeppen presiding. The mission statement of the Camden County DWI Court is:

To provide a collaborative, coordinated substance use disorder treatment program involving intensive case management which holds participants accountable empowering them to break the cycle of substance use and/or abuse in order that they will become productive law abiding members of our communities.

Representatives from Pathways Mental Health, the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, the Camden County Sheriff’s Office, Missouri Probation and Parole, and Court Probationary Services have been involved in the planning and training for this endeavor for months.

In an announcement from the Camden County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, Chief of Operations Scott Hines wrote, "These agencies and others are excited for the opportunity to conduct the inaugural setting of this court. All the team members and their respective agencies have contributed a considerable amount of time to make this court a reality and we believe this court will prove to be a good stewardship of taxpayer funds."
