CAMDEN COUNTY, Mo. — Camden County Assessor Marty McGuire is warning the public about potential scammers posing as assessors that have been visiting homes in the county.

McGuire says he’s heard reports from residents that individuals have been making late-evening house calls, posing as Assessor’s Office agents but in unmarked vehicles and without a namebadge. McGuire says that while his agents are in the field, updating appraisal records, those weren’t his agents.

“My Field Appraisers all have name badges, and they work between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday,” he said. How to identify an Assessor’s Office vehicle:

-All Assessor's Office vehicles are SUVs

-Marked with Assessor’s Office emblem

-County-assigned license plate, colored blue

McGuire urges anyone with questions or concerns about the assessment/appraisal process to call his office at 573-346-4440, ext 1251.

Anyone who suspects a scam should call the Camden County Sheriff’s Office or local police. In Missouri, state statute (RSMo 575.120) makes False Impersonation of a public official a Class B Misdemeanor, punishable by up to six months in prison and a fine of up to $1,000.
