LINN CREEK, Mo. — Officers with the Linn Creek Police Department narrowly avoided being hit Monday night when a westbound driver crashed into a K-9 unit during a traffic stop on Highway 54.
Chief David Lobaugh said officers were conducting a traffic stop around 7:30 p.m., Jan. 5, near Cross Creek when a passing motorist struck another vehicle and then collided with the patrol car. At the time of the crash, officers were outside their vehicle and were forced to take evasive action to avoid being hit.
Authorities believe the driver may have been distracted by cellphone use at the time of the crash, according to a press release. Neither the officers nor K-9 Nigel were injured.
The Missouri Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
Linn Creek Police Chief David Lobaugh thanked the Missouri Highway Patrol, Camden County Sheriff’s Office, Osage Beach Fire Department, and Mid-County Fire Protection District for assisting at the scene.
