Lake of the Ozarks is quieter, the wakes becoming smoother, after another busy summer with tourists, second-home owners, and locals alike. And it's the perfect time to get on the water for some fishing - something I found myself enjoying with James & Denise Dill Guide Service.
I have never fished, truly, though I've been gigging before on the Meramec River (yes, I know those aren't the same thing). And I'm also one of the Lake locals who doesn't have a boat. Fishing just isn’t a regular hobby for me.
Thankfully, Jim Dill is at the Lake. With over two decades of combined experience, he and his wife Denise are offering guided trips tailored to meet individual needs, from novice anglers to seasoned fishers.

Jim, who moved to the Lake area in 2004, has been guiding for 12 years. His extensive knowledge of local fishing conditions and techniques ensures a successful and enjoyable outing.
My husband and I went out earlier this summer with Jim, who arranged to pick us up from Public Beach 2, the most convenient spot for us. The Dills provided everything: rods and reels, tackles, plus drinks and snacks! They can also pick you up from your dock, resort, or any location that suits your needs.
We started at 7 a.m., to beat other boaters and the heat, and I was a little worried about being... bored.
But those four hours flew by with good conversation and good catches! He showed different baits, gave us different reels to try, and helped me learn the all-important flick of the line (I still need some practice).
"The fish can be moody," Jim said when I was struggling. "Sometimes they make you really work for 'em. We'll try different baits to see what they're biting."
Eventually, I got 'em, and Jim made sure of it.
Jim and Denise cater to all, whether you’re handicapped, elderly, or just scouting the Lake before a big tournament. While most trips accommodate two people, they can handle up to four, including children. Their rates are:
- $400 for 4 hours
- $550 for 6 hours
- $650 for 8 hours
With fewer boats and cooler temperatures setting in, there's no better time to cast a line and enjoy the beauty of Lake of the Ozarks.
