When does a place go from "best kept secret" to "local favorite?"

Sanctuary Brew Pub and Event Venue might know; the local microbrewery has definitively crossed into "local favorite" territory. With ever-changing locally brewed beers on tap, plus a wide (and wild!) variety of unique beers you may have never heard of, The Sanctuary keeps patrons coming back for more.

Currently, the Sanctuary is open from 3-9 p.m. Thursday to Sunday. (If you’re interested in an actual church service, Lake Christian Fellowship meets at 10:30 a.m. in the adjacent chapel!)

Located in a revamped church building in Osage Beach, owners Brian and Jennifer Roberts are crafting a place where customers want to come and linger.

Stepping inside The Sanctuary, the interior is sleek and modern, with games like hook and ring toss available on the sideboard and a couple TVs. The Roberts have more ideas in the works to keep improving their bar, such as expanding the patio and adding a fireplace.

There's also free popcorn with various seasonings: the Roberts say the popcorn is a surprisingly huge hit, and the popcorn maker works overtime!

But no one comes to a brewery just for popcorn...

“Customers crush our beers,” said Brian, who always has four beers brewing, with plans to add more local taps too.

A true brewmaster, Brian was originally an engineer: so he loves figuring out how things work and how they're put together. He took that passion and turned it toward brewing, and it seems he's found his niche. While Sanctuary is starting to discover what are their "always on tap" beers, Brian always has something interesting brewing, too. “I’ll be tweaking styles until it’s something that’ll stay forever,” he said.

As for food, the menu is chef-quality, unique, and delectable.

There’s lots to choose from at the pub, so here are a few things to try when you go:

To Drink

Hefeva Good Time Hefeweizen

Looking for a good time?  Look no further!  This Bavarian style wheat beer is brewed with a generous 50% German wheat and top-fermented with Hefe-specific yeast. Hefeva Good Time is an unfiltered, full-flavored ale with notes of banana and clove.  It’s the perfect summertime beer!

Wakeboard Wit

This traditional wheat beer is brewed with a mix of barley and wheat with added oats for a soft mouthfeel. Golden in appearance, Wakeboard Wit has a spiced flavor with notes of clove and coriander. There’s no lack of flavor here!

Cranberry Wheat

How about a different take: a fruited wheat beer? Originally brewed as a Thanksgiving special, the Cranberry Wheat has become one of Sanctuary's most popular beers. The addition of cranberries gives this beer a lovely pink hue and a light fruity tartness that keeps you coming back for more!

Hop For Peacher IPA

Got it bad, so bad. I’m Hop for Peacher! This easy-drinking IPA is characterized with the hop-forward style and peachy citrus notes sharing top billing.

Apricot Pale Ale

IYKYK. Apricot + Beer = <3.

This pale ale features a terrific orange-gold hue with a bright stone fruit sweetness due to the heaps of fresh apricot puree used in the brewing process.  This is a great summertime ale!

To Eat

Charcuterie Board

The Sanctuary - Charcuterie Board

Just look at this charcuterie board. It’s perfect for picking a variety of foods like imported and domestic meats and cheese. Stuffed peppers (so good, so good) and a spiced fruit chutney bring a little heat and grapes help balance the board with fruity sweetness. The only difficulty is figuring out which cheese and cracker to pair with the prosciutto!

Blue Crab & Shrimp Dip

With one bite you may ask whether you’ve ascended to heaven. Chef Chris McDonnell created a delicious dip that’s not too overwhelming on the seafood. It’s savory and served with warm naan or crispy bruschetta that’s seasoned with oil and makes for a perfect utensil.

Sanctuary Flatbread

This dish will change with the season and the chef’s creativity. Made on a small, round flatbread, this edition had a cheese sausage trio with stewed tomatoes, locally picked banana peppers, leeks, and was topped with greens. The crust stays crispy and delicious, too.

The Sanctuary provides a great place for hosting an event or grabbing a drink after work. The friendly vibes, variety of drinks, and the tasty menu means you should add the brewery to your rotation of Lake area restaurants. The Roberts have truly crafted a new Lake staple.
