LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. — Dealing with continued runoff from heavy overnight rains, Ameren is opening the floodgates even wider, after the initial opening this morning did not stop the Lake of the Ozarks from rising.
Ameren said as of 3 p.m. on July 1, the lake level was at 661.2 and was slowly rising.
Bagnell Dam's turbines were generating at maximum capacity this morning, with a flow of about 40,000 cubic feet per second (cfs). A 10 percent opening of 11 floodgates at 10 a.m. resulted in a 50,000 cfs flow. But the lake has continued rising, so Ameren has opened the floodgates further, to raise the flow to 70,000 cfs.
The increased flow will raise the Osage River an additional two to three feet; this morning's initial floodgate opening raised the river about four feet.
