CAMDEN COUNTY, Mo. — The new Camden County prosecutor says her predecessor's office dropped murder conspiracy charges against Leigh Ann Bauman on Dec. 29, 2022, after the case had gained international notoriety and news coverage.

When asked by Lake Expo on Thursday, Dec. 29, whether he knew if the charge against Bauman had been pleaded-down or dropped, Former Prosecutor Caleb Cunningham responded, "Not to my knowledge."

Confirmation came on the evening of Tuesday, Jan. 3, that the case had been dismissed. But that announcement came through Missouri's CaseNet system without any explanation.

On Jan. 4, Camden County Prosecuting Attorney Richelle Grosvenor explained to Lake Expo that the case had been dismissed before she took office.

Grosvenor issued a statement on Wednesday afternoon, which read: "Camden County Prosecuting Attorney Richelle Grosvenor took office on January 1, 2023.  Leigh Ann Bauman’s case was dismissed by the previous prosecutor’s office on December 29, 2022, prior to Mrs. Grosvenor taking office."

Grosvenor told Lake Expo she had been in communication with family connected to the Bauman case. She also noted she would be reviewing all the cases she inherited from Cunningham.

As of this publishing, Cunningham had not responded to a request for additional comments.
