We don't have a Season Two release date yet, but fans of Netflix's Ozark series just got some juicy morsels to tide them over until then. At an "invitation only" Netflix FYSEE event last weekend, actor and director Jason Bateman tossed a bone or two to those of us starving for anything Ozark-related.

*SPOILER ALERT! If you're not finished with Season One, you may want to stop reading.*

According to IndieWire reporting, Marty Bryde (Jason Bateman) and Ruth Langmore (Julie Garner) continue to get closer as the stakes get higher for everyone involved. The over arching themes for the upcoming season seem to revolve around Marty and Ruth's relationship, delving into Bryde's personal struggles, as well as pulling back and looking at the bigger picture of washing a lot of money in winter season at Lake of the Ozarks. In Season One, Marty had to launder $8 million, but this next chapter has them laundering $50 million.
A looming, shadowy character from the past makes it to the screen this season when Ruth's dad, Cade Langmore (Trevor Long), is released from jail. "There is a paternal dynamic here that gets complicated when he comes out of jail and he doesn’t like [Marty Bryde] as much as [Ruth] does. The question is: Will he grow to? Where’s her allegiance going to be?” said Bateman in the IndieWire coverage.
The report goes on to say that the drama between Marty and his wife Wendy (Laura Linney) appears to encompass the entire family after she chooses to not to abandon Marty and run away with the kids with new identities for their protection in Season 1. Even though she goes back to Marty after having an affair, there's much left unsaid between the two as they begrudgingly unify to stay alive. Mundy says, "all the things that happen next season, it’s a lot of family conflict basically.”

Lighting a fire under all of this boiling tension is Marty's new partnership with local heroin kingpin, Jacob Snell (Peter Mullan). Season Two picks up right where Season One left off, with Marty and Jacob cutting a deal to wash $50 million, six times the money washes at the Blue Cat Lodge in Season 1, this time using a riverboat casino that has yet to exist.
According to Hanh Nguyen's story, the cast and crew also discusses how difficult it is to part with characters that die. “I mean, you know we decide who’s dying before the season starts and then you cast these people and then you fall in love with these people. Alexa Fogel is an incredible casting director. She gives us these incredible actors who are all incredible people too. We have a great time together, and you’re flipping the calendar pages, and it’s like, ‘We’ve only got another few days together,'" said Bateman, expressing the unavoidable regret involved in the creative process for a show in which many characters won't stick around forever.
It's better because it's binge-able.
