OSAGE BEACH, Mo. — Michael E. Henze, chief executive officer of Lake Regional Health System in Osage Beach, has announced his decision to retire Nov. 1 after 27 years at the organization’s helm.

The health system’s board of directors has formed a search committee to recruit the organization’s next chief executive.

“The board is committed to finding a leader that exhibits the same commitment to excellence for Lake Regional that patients and the community have come to expect during Mike’s tenure,” said Corey ten Bensel, president of the Lake Regional Health System Board of Directors.

Henze joined Lake Regional in April 1990, when it was still known as Lake of the Ozarks General Hospital. As the hospital’s longest-serving leader, Henze has overseen a dramatic expansion of program services, including heart care and cancer treatment, as well as capital improvements. Today, Lake Regional is a 500,000-square-foot hospital and integrated health system with seven primary care clinics and 19 specialty clinics. The health system has more than 100 providers and is the area’s largest employer with more than 1,000 employees.

In addition, Henze has served hospitals statewide as a member of the Missouri Hospital Association Board of Trustees, including serving as board chair in 2007. During his tenure, he served on multiple MHA board committees, including the Federal Reimbursement Allowance Policy, Finance and Budget, Audit, Hospital Industry Data Institute Data Strategic Advisory committees and the MHA Rural Hospital Council. He received MHA’s highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award, in 2013 and its Visionary Leadership Award in 2004. He also served as a delegate to the American Hospital Association Regional Policy Board. Henze serves on the board of Healthcare Services Group, a medical malpractice carrier, serving as chair from 2005 to 2008. He is a member of the Lake Ozark Rotary Club.

“On behalf of the board of directors, we would like to congratulate Mike on his decision and express our appreciation to him for his dedication and exceptional leadership during his tenure at Lake Regional,” ten Bensel said.

Lake Regional Health System provides comprehensive health care services to the residents and visitors of the lake area. The hospital is accredited by The Joint Commission and is a three-time recipient of the Missouri Quality Award. To learn more, visit www.lakeregional.com.
