LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. — The Lake has now risen above levels seen during this summer's flooding and water continues to rise. As of 7 a.m., water began invading lakefront property up to 663.45 above sea level. For recent perspective, the Lake crested at 662.55 on July 2 during the infamous Independence Weekend flood.
Now a full foot above that level, a strong system of rain leaves northeast Arkansas headed for Lake of the Ozarks. It is expected to drop another 1-2 inches by noon Monday.
"We will have to see how this rainfall hits our basin today," Ameren Engineer Alan Sullivan said this morning at 4 a.m.
The dam, with all floodgates open, is moving water at 98,000 cubic feet per second with a good chance of maxing out at 100,000 cfs by midday.
The Osage River is up by 15 feet, compared to its level before the rains began. Ameren reported at 8 a.m. on Monday the river level at the dam was at an elevation of 582.53 feet.
While property owners along the Osage River are expected to see flow increases today, the rain should subside by noon, decreasing inflows into Lake of the Ozarks. As inflows taper off, Bagnell Dam operators will begin to pitch the floodgates allowing for some relief downstream.
