MORGAN COUNTY, Mo. — A Stover man is dead, a woman has been hospitalized, and authorities are investigating after a homicide on Sunday in Stover.

According to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, on Sunday, May 6, a man called 911, saying his wife was being assaulted. He told authorities he was not at the location of the assault, but she needed immediate assistance at 14968 Highway N, in Stover.

When authorities arrived, they say they heard “the sound of a distraught female” in the residence. They forced entry into the home and found a man unresponsive on the floor, and a woman “in a hysterical state” in a nearby room. Responders attempted lifesaving procedures on the man, but were unable to resuscitate him, and he was pronounced dead, according to the report. The woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment, and later released.

As of Monday, May 7, the investigation was ongoing, and an autopsy was scheduled for May 8. The sheriff’s office noted they have no reason to believe the public is in danger as a result of the incident.
