Traffic Stop Arrest Feb 2 - Riggs, Lyashuk

CAMDEN COUNTY, Mo. — Two men were arrested Saturday morning following a traffic stop near Mount Horeb Road when a deputy learned the driver had multiple warrants and the passenger allegedly had drug paraphernalia in plain view.

A Camden County Sheriff's deputy conducted a traffic stop in the early hours of Feb. 3. The driver was identified with his state-issued, non-driver ID as 45-year-old Joseph P. Riggs, of Springfield.

While speaking with Riggs, the deputy confirmed he had multiple active warrants, and placed him into custody. Yuriy V. Lyashuk, 26, was identified as the passenger and also placed into custody for reported drug paraphernalia.

Authorities say a search of the vehicle revealed numerous items including: bongs, pipes, straws, 4.5 grams of suspected powdered fentanyl, over 20 suspected fentanyl capsules, methamphetamine, and cocaine. Deputies also reportedly seized a loaded handgun, two sets of steel-plate armor, and a set of night vision binoculars.

Riggs is being held at the Camden County Adult Detention Facility for his warrants and is charged with the Class D Felony of Possession of a Controlled Substance. Riggs is being held without bond.
