MORGAN COUNTY, Mo. — A truck driver escaped a serious crash without serious injuries, on Highway 5.

The Gravois Fire Protection District received a 911 emergency call at 9:52 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29 to an accident involving a tractor trailer on Highway 5 in Gravois Mills. According to GFPD Fire Chief Ed Hancock, on arrival they found an 18-wheel tractor trailer on its side in the ditch. The accident had ripped the cab off the tractor.

The driver of the truck self-extricated and refused treatment at the scene, according to Chief Hancock, and he appeared to have some injuries. On arrival firefighters first checked the driver. They discovered diesel fuel leaking out onto the ground, due to a crushed side saddle tank. Firefighters mitigated the diesel fuel and stood by to assist with traffic control.

The truck was a dump trailer with an open top and was hauling grain. Approximately 80 percent of the grain was lost.

GFPD personnel monitored the scene until recovery was complete and the vehicle was removed from the roadway. They cleared the scene at 2:52 p.m. GFPD responded with five apparatus and six personnel. The Missouri State Highway Patrol also responded.
