Fake text: SMS scam or phishing concept

CAMDEN COUNTY, Mo. — Authorities say scammers are at it again, texting people about concealed carry permits as if they were the sheriff's office.

"Scam season is apparently never ending," said the Camden County Sheriff's Office.

This fake text claims that the permit is about to expire and includes a link. The scam is reportedly making its way through other states too like Colorado and North Carolina.

"We assume [it] takes you to a payment window or some other nefarious purpose," the sheriff's office said. "Do not click the link!"

The Camden County Sheriff's Office will never text someone about their concealed carry permit. If a message like that is received, they suggest deleting the text and blocking the number.
