Mark Alan Edwards

MILLER COUNTY, Mo. — Mark Edwards, a former teacher at School of the Osage—as well as another Lake of the Ozarks area school—has pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a female student while on a school bus. Edwards entered his guilty plea on Tuesday, Nov. 19.

Edwards faces four felony charges stemming from multiple incidents with two different victims. He pleaded guilty to the first charge, Statutory Sodomy of a Person Under 14 Years Old, and could face 20 years in prison. Sentencing is set for Feb. 6, 2020. He still faces three more charges: two counts of Sexual Contact with a Student (Class E Felony), and one count of 3rd Degree Child Molestation Under 14 Years Old (Class C Felony).

Edwards along with School of the Osage and the district's Board of Education have been sued in connection with one of the incidents.

In addition to the allegations regarding Edwards’s tenure with School of the Osage, the lawsuit claims he committed similar sexual improprieties against female students when he was employed by the Morgan County R-II School District as a middle school teacher. The evidence includes a statement given by a former Versailles student who claims she left the school district because of Edwards's overtures.
