LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. – Celebrate giving with a glass of bubbly! Community-conscious business professionals and philanthropists will celebrate local giving this Friday with the leaders of the charities changing lives at Lake of the Ozarks.
The Community Foundation of the Lake hosts the 9th Annual Champagne Campaign from 5-8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 29, at La Roca Club in Osage Beach. CFL’s signature event draws hundreds of attendees each year for hors d’oeuvres, libation, networking, live music and a champagne toast.
Leaders from charity organizations highlight the event with keynote speeches about the good coming from the grants and relationships made through CFL.
“Kids’ Harbor is thankful for its partnership with the Community Foundation of the Lake. The support, guidance, training, and funding provided by the Community Foundation is instrumental in fulfilling our mission to provide coordinated response, healing, and prevention of child abuse in our community,” Kids’ Harbor Executive Director Cara Gerdiman said. “Children, ages 0-18, and their non-offending caregivers often come to Kids’ Harbor in the midst of crisis. Our staff provides support through the often frightening criminal justice process and the opportunity to heal from the trauma they have experienced.”
“Without support and funding from the Community Foundation of the Lake, Kids’ Harbor could not continue to be a shining light through the storm of abuse for child victims in our community,” Gerdiman continued. “We are thankful for all the Community Foundation of the Lake does for the children of our community.”
Kids’ Harbor is one of many organizations applying for grants every year through CFL.
Lake Area Big Brothers Big Sisters helps children develop supportive relationships with positive role models to make a direct and lasting impact on their lives. Children participating in the program are 89% more likely to avoid risky behavior. Littles matched with Bigs are 52% less likely to skip school, 46% less likely to use illegal drugs and 27% less likely to use alcohol.
"The CFL grant has helped BBBS make it possible to carefully match 12 children in our program with adult mentors and provide the ongoing support that sustains those matches, helps provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one mentoring relationships that change their lives for the better, forever," said Alison Martin, BBBS Program Coordinator.
