CAMDENTON, Mo. — The City of Camdenton is revisiting its animal ordinances, with hopes of clarifying some of the language.
Chapters 210 and 213 of Camdenton’s City code related to animals inside the City limits were the topics for discussion Tuesday, May 3, at the Board of Alderman meeting. In an effort to eliminate redundancies and clarify code, revisions were offered for the Aldermen’s consideration.
Alderman Steve Eden questioned the changes made to Code 210.035 regarding the provision to protect adjacent residences from “offensive, disagreeable, or noxious smell[s], odor[s] or noise” by restricting pens or enclosures to a distance of at least 100 feet from another residence, “measuring property line to property line.” Eden noted the explanation of distance was not self-evident as he read the proposed revisions.
City Attorney Phil Morgan also raised questions about language already in the ordinance and retained in the revisions. That language provides for an exception to the distances if adjacent homeowners grant permission for pens and/or enclosures in writing. In the event of a rental, for example, he wondered, would the renters or prospective buyers be required to permit neighboring pens if homeowners or sellers had previously granted permission in writing?
As a result of these concerns, Attorney Morgan offered to re-examine the language and return at a subsequent meeting with revisions for the Board’s consideration. Thus, the revisions were tabled.
In other business, Alderman Hagedorn was re-elected as Acting President of the Board. McNabb thanked him for his prior service in that capacity and for agreeing to serve again.
McNabb informed the Board about honoring Tom Emry for forty years of service to the City. The Mayor joined Emry and other City employees for a lunch to recognize Emry. He was also given an engraved pocket knife in gratitude for his work.
Fixed Base Operator Corey Leuwerke’s contract with the City was renewed as is customary annually, and ordinances related to the sidewalk project were approved.
