LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. — In an incident that could have ended in disaster, at around noon on Tuesday, a boat went out of control, with passengers hanging off the side, at the 17 Mile Marker.
The Osage Beach Fire Protection District said in a Facebook post that they arrived on scene by land before nearby jet skiers were flagged down so two firefighters could use the PWCs to try and stop the boat.
Keeping pace with the circling vessel, Firefighter Holden jumped from the PWC and boarded the out-of-control boat. Holden quickly brought the boat under control and, with the help of Firefighter Douglas, assisted the passengers to safety.
OBFPD Marine 11 arrived and transported the occupants — who had no injuries — to a nearby condo complex.
The fire district did not share any details about what led to the boat operator losing control or why occupants were hanging off the side.
The vessel and further investigation were turned over to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
