LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. — While the lights have come back on for some businesses and residences in the Lake area, others are preparing for another night without power.

And Ameren — the major electric provider in the area — says restoration could take "multiple days."

July 4th storms brought mayhem to Lake of the Ozarks.

In this video submitted to LakeExpo, an explosion at a power line or transformer was the last straw for a waterfront restaurant, which shut down for the rest of the day.

Widespread damage caused by wind and downed trees during the surprise July 4th storm wreaked havoc on the grid, Ameren says. "While crews have made progress, the remaining damage is more complicated to repair," the utilities company said in an email to customers on Sunday. "Given the extent of the damage, restoration in some areas may take multiple days."

As of Sunday, July 5 at 7 p.m., Poweroutage.us was reporting about 8,000 people were still without power in the tri-county area around the Lake (Camden, Miller, and Morgan counties) — down from a reported 30,000 after the storm hit on Saturday.

Good afternoon,

Recent severe storms have caused significant and widespread damage to our system. We understand the impact that outages cause and appreciate your continued patience.

While crews have made progress, the remaining damage is more complicated to repair. Given the extent of the damage, restoration in some areas may take multiple days. Exact restoration times will be added to our outage map as they become available.

To check an outage status, visit our Ameren Outage Map or download our free Ameren Mobile app. You can also text STAT to 263736.

Until power is fully restored, you may need to make alternative plans for your continued health and safety.

Remember to always stay away from downed wires and report them immediately by calling Ameren Missouri at 1.800.552.7583.
