WEBSTER COUNTY, Mo. — Major flooding in recent days has dislodged a massive section of road over the Niangua River.
The road is constructed with a series of culverts that the river passes through, and is located on Long State Hwy Y, southwest of Conway, Mo — about 20 miles northeast of Springfield.
"This culvert, located on Webster County Route Y, was washed out during unprecedented flash flooding on June 4," explained Missouri Dept. of Transportation SW District Communications Director Jennifer Williams. "Over seven inches of rain fell in a short time, and the force of the flood waters and debris overwhelmed the structure."
Video of the bridge shared by Dennis Correll shows the main middle stretch of the road broken-loose. Correll said that stretch had sunken by about a foot and a half below the level of the road on either side of the river. Video showed water was flowing underneath the concrete culverts.

A mass of dead trees and debris can be seen piled on the upstream side of the bridge.
Williams said MoDOT staff are reviewing the site and exploring options, but there is no set timeline for repairs.
She added, "We would remind the public to avoid the area, seek an alternate route until repairs are completed, and please do not move safety barricades."
