MORGAN COUNTY, Mo. — A flood watch has been issued for Morgan County and surrounding areas as forecasters warn of potentially heavy rainfall beginning Wednesday evening and continuing into Thursday afternoon.
The National Weather Service said the watch will go into effect at 7 p.m., April 1, and remain in place through the afternoon of April 2. Cities like Versailles, Stover, Laurie, and Rocky Mount are expected to see widespread rainfall between 1-2 inches, with some localized areas possibly getting up to 5 inches of rain overnight.
The primary concern is excessive runoff, which could lead to flooding of low-lying areas. Creeks and streams throughout may rise quickly and could overflow their banks if heavier rainfall develops.
Residents are urged to stay alert and monitor weather updates. Those in areas prone to flooding should have a plan to move to higher ground if necessary.
