Don’t Get Left In The Cold: Baker Air Conditioning & Heating Is Ready For Fall

It’s fall at Lake of the Ozarks. And Missouri's wild weather swings mean you’re running the A/C one day and the furnace the next!

To keep those systems up to snuff, regular maintenance, repair or replacement are facts of life.

Rich Baker, owner of Baker Air Conditioning & Heating, has over 42 years of experience fixing and installing all types of air conditioning systems, including heat pumps, mini-splits and geothermal heating and cooling. After moving from Omaha to semi-retire at the Lake in 2016, Baker started his own HVAC business here in 2021. “Being semi-retired didn’t last long,” Baker chuckled.

Too Big? Too Small? Or Just Right?

One of the biggest considerations for HVAC companies is determining the size of the system needed to heat or cool the office or home efficiently.

Baker Air Conditioning & Heating uses a Manual J program to precisely calculate the heating and cooling needs of the space. Airflow, insulation factors and even window sizes can affect the temperature in the home. Baker Air Conditioning & Heating takes all of these things into consideration so the inside temperature is comfortable without wasting electricity, causing monthly bills to skyrocket when the temperature dips.

For new builds, Baker uses blueprints to make the correct calculations for the home. “I size everything,” he said. For a new average-sized home in need of full ductwork, Baker completes the job in just a few days.

“One of our customers is a construction guy who had a different HVAC company bid on a residential new construction job. That company backed out at the last minute. So we came in on a rushed job and they were very happy with the results. We have been doing the construction company’s HVAC work ever since,” Baker explained.

Baker went on to tell a story about how he recently helped a man in Eldon whose furnace went out two winters ago. Apparently, three other companies had attempted to fix the furnace with no luck. “Before I even went out to look at it, the guy gave me the model and serial number on the furnace. I went to the manufacturer and got the parts. Now this man has heat for the first time in a year,” Baker remarked.

Experience and honesty are core values for Baker Air Conditioning & Heating. And for Lake residents always wondering which contractors they can trust, that’s a big deal.

“We are reliable and prompt. I don’t want customers buying a new system if they don’t need to,” Baker commented.

When a mutual friend in Sedalia gave Baker Air Conditioning & Heating a call about a 3-year-old system that never worked quite right, Baker quickly got to the bottom of the problem. “I went out there and realized it needed a new gas valve. Now the system is working like new,” Baker said.
