Ozark Opry on fire

Flames shoot from the front of the Ozark Opry on Sunday, April 7.

OSAGE BEACH, Mo. — The cause has been determined for the fire that broke out at the Ozark Opry in Osage Beach Sunday morning.

A report released by the Osage Beach Fire Protection District revealed district investigators have determined that the fire was unintentional. They pinpointed the start of the blaze to an extension cord plugged into a CD recording device that had been used to record the shows performed in the venue, until it was closed in 2005. The device was located in the front of the building, in a small storage area above the ticket counter, according to the report.

The district reported on April 7, at 11:21 a.m., Osage Beach FPD was called to the scene, and first arriving units found flames leaping out of the front of the building and gray smoke pluming from the rear. Crews first cut ventilation holes in the roof to release heat and detect the source of the fire, while other crew members attacked the fire from the front. Osage Beach, Lake Ozark, and Mid County FPD along with Camdenton and Eldon Fire Departments responded to the scene. The report said the building sustained heavy fire damage in the front, and heavy smoke and water damage throughout.

Osage Beach FPD reported one minor injury sustained by fire department personnel and no injuries to the public.
