LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. — A 19-year-old University of Iowa student was found dead in a hotel room at Lake of the Ozarks over the weekend, and authorities are investigating.
According to the Camden County Sheriff’s Office, Kamil Jackowski was found unresponsive in his room at Camden on the Lake on Sunday morning, April 30. Authorities were called at approximately 7 a.m., and they began CPR when they arrived, but Jackowski was pronounced dead at Lake Regional Hospital.
An autopsy was scheduled for Monday, May 1 in Springfield, Mo. Police did not release any further information about Jackowski’s condition or the possible cause of death.
Jackowski, originally from Arlington Heights, Ill., had reportedly traveled to the Lake of the Ozarks for a fraternity event; he was a member of Sigma Chi at UI. A GoFundMe page for Jackowski’s funeral had raised more than $36,000 as of Monday afternoon—far exceeding its $10,000 goal.
On the page, the fundraising organizer wrote, “Kamil was a warm hearted and caring brother and son. He was an extremely hard worker and always kept a smile on his face, cracking jokes, making faces, and making those around him smile. He was a brilliant kid that had such a bright future. Unfortunately, he was taken too soon. Any donations to help cover the cost of the funeral will be greatly appreciated.”
